Abstract: A computer-implemented method of using video program viewer interaction data that has been loaded to a media measurement database as input to a measurement engine which then calculates Linear, DVR, and VOD asset viewing activity at three levels: (a) Video Program, (b) Video Program Airing, (c) Video Program Airing Segment, where each level provides summary metrics for groupings of Demographic, Geographic, and/or Device Characteristic, and also second-by-second viewing metrics, including counting advertising impressions, within the Demographic, Geographic, Device groupings. System also accounts for reduced value of ad viewing when viewer is using trick plays or when viewer delays viewing recorded content. Together these metrics provide detailed information on customer viewing behavior which can be used to drive business decisions for service providers, advertisers and content producers. Additionally, a viewing histogram analysis is produced.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for determining a preference of a user for or against a participant of an event when a media asset relating to the event is being played based on monitoring user reactions to the event. Specifically, the media guidance application may detect a change of at least one of the biometric state (e.g., pulse rate, blood pressure, etc.) and physiological state (e.g., facial expression, gesture, body movement, etc.) with a user. The media guidance application may determine that an event has occurred within the sporting event that triggered the change. The media guidance application may determine that the user favors the first participant over the second participant, if the user reacts positively towards a score for the first participant in the event.

Abstract: A method, systems and apparatuses for preventing a user abandonment from a browser window are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, abandonment prevent on a user mobile device comprises pushing a placeholder variable onto a history object of the browser window while the user is on a first website. The user may be directed to the first website from a referrer. User may navigate backwards using a device interface element, such as a back button. When user navigation triggers a popstate, and the history for the browser is null, the user is directed to a preferred website.

Abstract: In one aspect, a method includes (i) accessing broadcast-schedule data associated with a channel; (ii) using the accessed broadcast-schedule data to identify an upcoming content-modification opportunity on the channel; (iii) responsive to identifying the upcoming content-modification opportunity on the channel, identifying a content-presentation device tuned to the channel; and (iv) causing supplemental content to be transmitted to the identified content-presentation device, to facilitate the identified content-presentation device performing a content-modification operation related to the identified upcoming content-modification opportunity on the channel.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method receives a message that identifies an asset being viewed on a video service at a timestamp. The message is associated with a profile identifier and a plurality of messages are received for the profile identifier while using the video service. The method determines a channel identifier for a channel in which the asset is offered during the timestamp and determines whether a channel change occurred based on the channel identifier and a prior channel identifier determined from a prior message in the plurality of messages. When the channel change has occurred, the method stores the channel identifier and timestamp for the profile identifier in a data structure, wherein a list of channels is generated by querying the data structure to determine a set of channel identifiers and timestamps for the profile identifier.

Abstract: Techniques where a computing device such as a smart phone can be leveraged to facilitate ratings data capture through a set top box (“STB”) associated with a content subscription service such as satellite television are described. In an exemplary embodiment, STB channel data can be communicated to the computing device via a personal area network (“PAN”) connection such as Bluetooth. The computing device in turn can forward the STB channel data to a remote server over a wide area network (“WAN”).

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for mitigating errors introduced during processing of user input such as voice input. A query may be derived from processed user input. A performance predictor analyzes the query and uses historical data to predict whether the query will return relevant results if executed. If the query's predicted performance is below a threshold, a query rewriter may identify potential alternatives to the query from a library of “known good” queries. Different analyzers may be applied to identify different sets of alternatives, and machine learning models may be applied to rank the outputs of the analyzers. The best-matching alternatives from each analyzer may then be provided as inputs to a further machine learning model, which assesses the probability that each of the identified alternatives reflects the intent of the user. A most likely alternative may then be selected to execute in place of the original query.

Times at which the interactions are received are tracked, and the interactions are interpreted to characterize feedback regarding media content being played at the times at which the interactions are received. Portions of the media program that are of high interest to listeners, as determined by such interactions, are identified and combined into consolidated media programs and stored. The consolidated media programs formed from such portions are available to listeners, in a prerecorded format, as condensed alternatives to the media programs.

The online system receives a plurality of live videos for streaming to its users. To recommend a live video, the online system dynamically identifies a topic of each of the plurality of live videos during the streaming. The online system further selects a group of candidate live videos, each of which has an identified topic matching an interest of the target user. The online system ranks the candidates based on a probability that the target user would positively interact with each candidate live video if the candidate live video is presented to the target user. Then the online system provides a candidate above a threshold level in the ranking for display to the target user, e.g., in a newsfeed of the target user.

The media device receives audio over the HDMI/ARC port from the display device, processes the audio by identifying, decoding, re-encoding, and fingerprinting the audio with identification information, and subsequently streams the audio within the media streaming environment, including to external speakers, such as voice-enabled speakers. Based on the identification information and recognized content of the processed audio, the media device offers additional content for streaming to a user. The media device continuously monitors for spoken voice received over a voice-enabled speaker while the media device simultaneously receives, processes, and streams audio from the display device.

A rendering command is determined from the first instance of the application corresponding to displaying the interface including the fetched file as indicated by the metadata. The plurality of latitude-longitude pairs are organized into clusters, with the clusters corresponding to geographic regions visited by the selected mobile device during the time period. A score is calculated for each cluster, the score representing a likelihood that a user of the selected mobile device resides in a household within the cluster. A location of the user's household is identified to be within one of the geographic areas corresponding to the cluster having the highest score. The mobile device is associated with the geographic area having the highest score.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address deficiencies in conventional biometric devices by dynamically enabling and disabling a biometric device based on the content the user is viewing. The media guidance application may utilize a device enablement rule, which has content criteria. If the content criteria is satisfied, the media guidance application may enable or disable a biometric device in accordance with the device enablement rule.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for a USB-based media device upgrading system. An embodiment operates by receiving a fetch command from a first instance of an application executing locally on a host device physically connected to media device. The fetch command is provided to a media device executing a second instance of the application. At the host device, metadata corresponding to the file that was retrieved by the media device is received. A rendering command is determined from the first instance of the application corresponding to displaying the interface including the fetched file as indicated by the metadata. The rendering command is provided to the media device that is configured to display the interface of the application responsive to executing the rendering command.
