Abstract: A method that produces an inexpensive and high-quality male side pipe by forming a seal groove for holding an O-ring only by means of press machining is disclosed. A male side pipe is pressed to form an expanded part at an intermediate part thereof. This expanded part is pressed to form a bulge part. Furthermore, the portion of the male side pipe from a tip end to an intermediate part of the bulge part is contracted to form a seal groove side face and a seal groove bottom face at the side of the bulge part. In addition, the portion, of the male side pipe from the tip end to the point S is pressed for thinning to facilitate the machining on male side pipe. Then, the thinned portion is widened to form a seal groove side face at the side of the tip end. By forming the seal groove side face roughly perpendicular to the axial direction of the male side pipe during these processes, the askew assembly or slanting of the O-ring can be prevented.

Abstract: A metal rod (20) having a conical or pyramidal cut extremity (20a) is used to make a mandrel for blind rivets. The rod is held in place between a pair of die segments (11) such that its end (26) of a preset length, including the tip protrudes from an upper surface (14) of the segments. Subsequently, a free intermediate portion of the swageable end (26) is axially compressed to form a mandrel head (27) by a punch (12) which has a lower face (17) parallel to the upper surface (14) of the segments with a conical or pyramidal recess (18) formed on the end. The free intermediate portion of the swageable end (26) swells radially outward to form the head (27) having a flat flange (31) from which the tip intrudes. The mandrel, which has the head formed uniformly without any eccentricity about the longitudinal axis of a mandrel body, can be produced inexpensively using a prior art nail manufacturing apparatus.

Abstract: A reduced resistance bead seal is integrally formed on a mounting surface of one of two matingly engageable members to form a leak-free seal between the two members despite any eccentricity or angular variances between the two members. In one embodiment, the reduced resistance bead is formed on an inner conical flange of an inverted flared end of a hollow fluid conduit. The bead presents a deformable surface as a fitting urges the flared end of the conduit into engagement with a conical seat in a receiver where eccentricity or angular variances exist between the flared end of the conduit and the conical seat. A unique method and a unique forming tool are used to form the reduced resistance bead in the flared end of the conduit simultaneously with the flaring of the end of the conduit.

Abstract: Apparatus for straightening and orientating the deformed nipples of an anode employs framework through which each anode suspended by its anode rod is passed. A hollow casing with openings for receiving the nipples is raised relative to the framework to locate the nipples in the openings. A yoke of the anode is supported by pressure-pieces driven by self-locking spindle drives to engage the yoke from the outside and by support members engaging the yoke from the underside. The casing carries mechanisms each composed of piston and cylinder units with the piston rods and cylinders interconnected by yokes. One of these yokes has recesses for applying force to a central nipple and the other of these yokes carries a force-applying element with a socket for receiving the outermost nipples. The yokes and force applying elements are guided within the casing and serve to bend the nipples back into the desired orientation. Stops serve to control and limit the displacement of the piston and cylinder units.

Abstract: Apparatus is provided for bending hosels of metal wood golf club heads to alter the characteristics of golf clubs incorporating the heads. A club head is clamped into a rigid clamping framework using a pair of clamps which engage the top and the back of the club head. A bending bar having an adjustable throat for engaging the hosel of the club head is then used to bend the hosel as required. The throat of the bending bar is defined by material which is softer than the golf club head to substantially eliminate marring of the club head. The back of the club head is engaged by an elongated pad of polymeric material formed to receive the back of the club head and the top of the club head is engaged by a pair of club head gripping areas formed to spread the top head gripping forces over two relatively large areas. The top gripping areas are formed as a single polymeric pad which is bifurcated to define the gripping areas.

The upper part of this controller is divided into two plates (5a,5a) by groove in a longitudinal direction. The controller includes a die (5) which has a reversed plate support (9) fitted inside a groove (5b) defined between these two plates, die push-up means (10, 11, 12) disposed at at least one position in the longitudinal direction of the die below the die, and feed quantity control means (13, 14, 15) for controlling the feed quantity of the die push-up means on the basis of a machining condition that has been in advance inputted. A work (40) is held under pressure between a punch (8) fitted to the tip of a ram (7) moved vertically by a pressure holding cylinder (6) and the reversed plate support (9) described above and is subjected to the bending work when the die is pushed up through the push-up means.
